MARCH FOR THE GOVERNOR'S SIGNATURE, Sacramento
On August 25, 2002 over 5,000 farm workers, advocates and supporters marched to the capitol, the last leg of an eleven-day 165-mile long walk that began in Merced. The group demanded legislation that would grant farm workers binding mediation in unresolved contracts with growers. A month later, a compromised version of this bill was signed into law. It was the greatest legislative victory for farm workers in over a quarter century.
