BRACERO RALLY, Los Angeles
Braceros, originally brought into the United States as guest workers to make up for the labor lost to World War II, had 10% of their salaries deducted by the U.S. Government, transferred to Wells Fargo Bank, then supposedly held by the Mexican Government from 1942 into the 1960’s. They receive no Social Security benefits or pensions, and have seen none of this money. Having had to resort to legal battles to reclaim it, in late August, 2002, just weeks after this rally, they were told their case was being thrown out of federal court due to an expiration of the statute of limitations. |
