BROTHER SALIM GHAZALY, Cham Community In the late 1970's Cambodia suffered through the brutal murder of more than two million of its citizens, with over a million of them being Muslims. Salim Ghazaly who lost nearly his entire family in the killing fields (and his first child due to starvation) fled on foot first to Thailand and the Philippines, before ultimately being granted asylum by the U.S. He eventually brought the surviving members of his and numerous other families over to Santa Ana, CA where he has helped build a small but tightly-knit community of Muslims who are also known as "Cham." | |
