INDIAN BOYS, Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria Ezeqiel Gutirrez and his cousin Jose, two of the youngest members of the tribe, take a moment between dances at "The Acorn." With the tribe’s recent acquisition of 271 acres of land in an unincorporated area of southern Sonoma County, the tribe has announced plans for a resort and casino which, on their sole insistence, will be both the nation's first environmentally "green" facility, and be built with and run by exclusively union labor. While these plans were set in motion, the tribe simultaneously set aside nearly three million dollars to purchase nearby open space to be preserved and given voluntarily to the city as a means of preserving the same amount of land they are planning to build on. | |
